The BAE Systems Hawk is a British single-engine jet trainer. It first flew in 1974 as the Hawker Siddeley Hawk. The Hawk is used by the Royal Air Force and other air forces as a low-cost trainer or fighter. The Hawk is still in production, with over 900 Hawks sold to 18 customers worldwide. The Hawk T1a is a modified T1 Hawk, which was intended to replace the Hawker fighter in tactical units of the RAF. A total of 89 aircraft were converted to carry two 9L Air-to-Air Magnet air-to-air missiles and a centerline gun. During the 1980s, the RAF began using two Hawks in the Joint Fighter Force (MFF) concept; The intention was to attach three of the four Falcons to a Phantom or Tornado interceptor, which would guide them using its powerful radar onto enemy targets. This is also the variant used by the Red Arrows display team from the raft; the underbody gun is used to carry oil for the smoke display system. Length: 268 mm, wingspan: 210 mm.
